Secondary Math (Grades 7-12) Certification Program
Program Description
-
The Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 Secondary Math (7-12) Certification Program is founded on the commitment of continual and ongoing quality improvement and professional growth opportunities for aspiring educators. Through strategic partnerships, these programs will seek to empower communities of educators and families to lead school improvement, so that all students have access to a high-quality education with a focus on teaching and learning. In partnership with NJCTL, this program seeks to merge an innovative Progressive Mathematics Initiative with foundational coursework designed by CLIU #21 leading to a PA Teaching Certification in Mathematics 7-12 that helps all children learn. This is a high quality mathematics educator training program by which all components are aligned to the standards delineated in the PA School Code.NJCTL is a nonprofit that is providing a simple, scalable solution for our nation's massive STEM teacher shortage and the great social injustice that comes from depriving underserved students access to STEM education and the important opportunities this learning provides. NJCTL empowers teachers of every academic and cultural background to effectively teach K -12 mathematics and science to all students with the Progressive Science Initiative® (PSI®) and the Progressive Mathematics Initiative® (PMI®).With a central mission of "helping children learn," Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 is an educational service agency that works with schools to provide a variety of services, from special programs for students to recruiting for human resources departments as needed. It is the job of the CLIU to facilitate inter-district cooperation, provide educational and administrative services to schools, and function as a link between the Pennsylvania Department of Education and local school districts.Candidates must have successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject area with a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for this program. Candidates with a GPA below 3.0 may be eligible for provisional acceptance. We encourage you to reach out to us at cliucert@cliu.org with any questions.
