The Dependent Deduction for your insurance coverage is based upon the level of coverage (e.g. single, parent & child, family, etc.) you have elected, as well as the plan you are enrolled in. Your dependent deduction is also dependent upon your Labor Relationship (CLEA, ESPA, etc.) and your payroll schedule.
The Dependent Deduction contributes toward coverage (medical, prescription, and dental) that runs from July 1st through June 30th. Likewise the dependent deduction is prorated on a 12 month basis (July to June). We realize that deductions can become confusing with the differing pay schedules at the CLIU.
July through June payroll (e.g. Office Staff, EI Staff) Click here for an illustration
For those staff members who are paid on a July to June cycle and enroll dependents on their insurance plan, the dependent contribution amount is being deducted from pays coinciding with the coverage period.
September through August payroll (e.g. Most 191 Staff) Click here for an illustration
Your coverage will begin on July 1st of the fiscal year, but you will not see deductions taken for this coverage period begin until the first payroll in September. Your deductions will continue until the last payroll in August of the following fiscal year although your coverage for the period being paid for ended June 30th. The CLIU covers 10 month staff members in July and August for medical, prescription, and dental insurance with the understanding that they are returning to their Full or Part time position in the next work year.
September through June timesheet payroll (e.g.Transportation) Click here for an illustration
Staff who complete a timesheet and have their payroll from September to June will have their dependent deduction taken over the 10 months of payroll for the full 12 months of coverage. Coverage will begin on July 1st, but you will not have a deduction until the first payroll in September. You do not need to pay the IU directly for coverage during July and August, an adjustment has been made on your behalf to your payroll deductions in order to collect the full amount during the time you receive a payroll. The CLIU covers 10 month staff members in July and August for medical, prescription, and dental insurance with the understanding that they are returning to their Full or Part time position in the next work year.
Deductions missed (e.g. during a leave of absence) will need to be collected. The IU will work with you to either invoice or adjust deductions from your payroll to allow you to enjoy the pre-tax benefit you may have elected.
