Mrs. Hellen's classroom is bursting with excitement as the school year begins!  The student's will be working on engaging and motivating curriculum that is designed to meet their individual learning needs.  From differentiated math to novel studies, S.T.E.A.M. to U.S.History, the student's will be diving into our studies full force as we progress.  The SOAR system is, as it was before, our SWPBS which is broken down into levels.  Each level allows student's different privileges that they are able to earn as they make their days.  We will are excited to say that we will be continuing our Community Based Instruction (CBI) trips and monthly happenings for those who are meeting their behavioral expectations!

Please remember to send in your student's emergency forms, free and reduced lunch papers, and any other information needed.
    Growth Mindset

Welcome! My name is Caitlin Hellen and I teach all subject areas to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. I began working at Carbon Learning Achievement School in December 2016. Prior to joining CLIU#21 I worked for two middle school's in the Lehigh Valley and spent three years working in Montgomery County Maryland with grades K-5 Special education and 2nd General Education.   I have my bachelors degree from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland in Elementary Education K-6, and Special Education K-8, and a masters degree in Education: Integrating Technology into the classroom from Walden Univeristy. My passion is helping others, and what better way to do that than to teach others how to better themselves through goal setting, educational risk taking, and growth mindset?  Outside of school, I love to spend time with my family including my baby boy, travel, and read.  I will continually update this website with resources, student artifacts, pictures of activities and necessary information.

IEP Team: Your child's IEP team will consist of any or all of the following people: student, parent, general education teacher, special education teacher, local education agency representative, special education supervisor, social worker, public agency representative, school psychologist, related services (speech, OT, PT).

IEP Process: Your child's case manager (typically the special education teacher) will contact the parent about one month prior to your child's IEP due date to set up a date and time that works for everyone. Once a date is set the parent will receive an Invitation to Participate confirming the date and time of the IEP meeting. At the IEP meeting the team will discuss and decide together on what is reasonable and appropriate for the child. Once the team has discussed and agreed the parent will be presented with a Notice of Recommended Educational Placement (NOREP). The parent/guardian will sign the NOREP confirming they are in agreeable with all aspects of their child's IEP.

Evaluation Process: Your child may need to be evaluated by the school psychologist for different reasons. If an evaluation is requested by the school, the parent will receive a Request to Evaluate form from the school psychologist before formal testing can begin.
