Career Readiness Resources
Welcome to CLIU’s career readiness resource hub.
The Future Ready PA Index was created as Pennsylvania’s Consolidated State Plan, required under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Indicators within this plan fall into three broad categories; this resource hub focuses on the College and Career Ready Measures, and more specifically, Career Readiness Standards.
While college preparation has always been an integral part of K-12 education, career awareness, preparation and planning are a more recent focus thanks in large part to the incredible impact technology and innovation have had on our workforce.
For generations, public education prepared some students for college and others for direct entry into the workforce. Those who earned a college degree usually entered white collar jobs and those who did not were able to secure low skill jobs that offered decent pay. Today’s workforce does not support this model. In general, good jobs – those offering a living wage with opportunities for advancement – require at least some college and/or training. Simply stated, K-12 education must prepare learners for both college and careers.
