Transportation Overview

The Transportation Department services are based on the needs of each student and addressed in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Services are requested by the School Districts which have the option to transport their own students or to contract with the IU or other providers.

The Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit Transportation Department provides student transportation in both Carbon and Lehigh Counties to educational programs based on the students' individual needs. These programs include but not limited to all Pre-Schools, Carbon County Vo-Tech, Lehigh Valley Technical Institute, and Special Education Programs located in all fourteen school districts. In addition, we also transport students to a variety of private school programs located within and beyond the boundaries of both counties.

The Transportation Department consists of over two hundred employees including a Transportation Director, Supervisor, Safety Officer, and office support staff. Our drivers are professionally trained and in compliance with all Pennsylvania State physical and licensing requirements. Drivers also undergo semi-annual training in CPR, Crisis Prevention Intervention, First Aid, Fire Safety, Automatic External Defibrillator, and Lifting Techniques. The maintenance personnel are highly qualified and maintain our fleet of over two hundred vehicles to the highest degree possible. Our goal is to insure the safest and most time efficient transportation of our students on daily basis.
