CLIU Student Programs Calendar 2007-2008

Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Governor's Schools of Excellence are five-week-long, paid in full scholarship summer residential programs on college campuses throughout the state committed to meeting the needs of artistically and academically talented high school students. An emphasis is placed on leadership training, with a focus on local service projects. Applications for the 2008 program are now available in your guidance office or online. Deadline for applications is early next year.

The 4th Annual Regional Middle School Computer Fair will be held at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit, in Schnecksville, on Friday, March 7, 2008 (Snow date: March 13, 2008). This event is part of the statewide 2008 PA Computer Fair Competition, with regional winners moving on to compete at the Pennsylvania Department of Education, in Harrisburg, on April 23, 2008.

The 8th Annual Regional High School Computer Fair will be held at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit, in Schnecksville, on Friday, March 28, 2008 (Snow date: April 10, 2008). This event is part of the statewide 2008 PA Computer Fair Competition, with regional winners moving on to compete at Dickinson College on May 20, 2008.

The Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit Regional Academic Competition will be held at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit, in Schnecksville, on Monday, April 14, 2008. This event is part of the statewide 2008 PA Academic Competition, with regional winners moving on to compete at the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building, Harrisburg, PA from 9 - 5 pm, on Friday, April 28, 2008. The competition can also be viewed on PCN live.

The 2nd Annual Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit Digital Video Camp will be held at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit, in Schnecksville, the weeks of June 23-27 and July 14-18. The camps are open to students entering grades 6-12 for the 2008-2009 school year. The week long camps focus on video editing, scriptwriting, storyboarding and videography. The camp culminates with a showcase of the campers finished projects in front of family and friends.

The Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit will host its first ever Elementary School Computer Fair at the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit, in Schnecksville on Friday May 16th from 9-3pm. This fair is currently in the development process. More information will be released in the near future.

The Technology Wizards program provides schools with the opportunity to develop a cadre of student and teacher leaders equipped with the skills to transform the delivery of professional development by pairing one student and one advisor from a school building as a team to attend monthly training sessions at CLIU 21. At each session the team experiences hands-on training in an emerging technology, along with coaching and mentoring guidance followed by planning time to develop an agenda for the delivery of professional development to the team's school faculty. Tech Wizard meeting dates: 11/13, 12/11/2007; 1/9, 2/5, 3/4, 4/15, 5/13/2008.

Student Forum is hosted each month, October-May, by a school district in Lehigh and Carbon Counties. The purpose of Student Forum is to discuss current issues of concern to high school students and share this information with their peers at their respective schools. Student Forum is comprised of 4 student representatives from each member district: CCTI, Louis E. Dieruff, Emmaus, Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern, Palmerton, Panther Valley, Parkland, Southern Lehigh, Weatherly, Whitehall and William Allen.
