| The Elementary and Secondary Education Act was reauthorized on January 8, 2002. The Act was authorized as the "No Child Left Behind Act of 2001," P.L. 107-110. The purpose of No Child Left Behind is "to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments."
